She says every day is unpredictable and emotionally challenging, but the job is also deeply rewarding. This week, local departments are showing appreciation with gifts.

Tulsa-based medical team heads to Myanmar after devastating earthquakes

Tulsa-based nonprofit In His Image International is sending a 12-person medical team to Myanmar to provide aid after a deadly 7.7 magnitude earthquake. Led by Dr. Mitchell Duininck, the group includes 9 physicians and will offer medical care, emotional support, and supplies to overwhelmed communities. The team departs Saturday and says their mission is not only to heal, but to show the people of Myanmar they are not forgotten.

Ascension Saint John’s Human Trafficking Response Program has helped more than 350 victims over the past six years and was recently honored by the Tulsa Police Department for its work during a multi-agency operation. Led by Sara Gadd, the program trains all hospital staff to recognize the hidden signs of trafficking and connects survivors with long-term care and essential resources. The initiative began at Saint John.
